So firstly "The Great Gatsby" would definitely 100% be included in this but I lent my copy to my boyfriend when he went on holiday and he HASN'T GIVEN ME IT BACK!! Not amused.
Firstly this is what I'm reading at the minute just to let you know...
Pride and Prejudice" is one of the first genuinely good (in a literary sense... in comparison to fucking Harry Potter or something, which I bloody love but it's written shockingly) books I read. I think first read it when I was 10/11ish and loved it. I have two copies because the one on the right was my grandma and my grandpa found it in their house and gave it to me when I was little because my grandma died before I was born. I couldn't find when this specific book was published but seen as the price is written in shillings on the back cover I reckon it's pretty old....
"The Handmaid's Tale" is one of the most recent books I've read and it was such a page turner, complete dystopian novel set in a futuristic world of women's oppression where certain women are bred to recreate- Handmaids. There's a lot of murder and death and fucked up stuff and it's so gooooood
"Junk" I read far to young. The entire novel is just purely about drugs but it's brilliant. I remember reading this in year 5 so I must have been like 8/9 but fuck it it's a bloody good book!
This is another weird one but if you like messed up, murderous, disgusting books then this is for you. "The Bloody Chamber" is a book containing about 10 short stories, all re-tellings of fairytales and fables but in a really fucked up way. For example, one of the stories includes a man and his wife going for a horseride and stumbling across a naked child, the man puts the child on the back of his horse and the wife gets jealous so makes the child pick her a rose. She pricks her finger and dies so the man gets off his horse and rapes the dead girl... as you do.
This is honestly one of my favourite books I've ever read in my life. If you haven't read this honestly please do it's insanely good and so well written. "The Bell Jar" is another one that's a little messed up and includes attempted suicide and lots of sex but I love it.
"Atonement" is a classic, definitely not the sort of book I usually go for, especially not at the moment as I'm really into feminist books but this is such a lovely story. Warning: you will get ridiculously depressed and cry whilst reading this.
